A Greenup County woman was injured in a single vehicle accident Wednesday evening at the intersection of the AA Highway and the Grayson Spur, east of Vanceburg.
Deputy Matt Ross said Wanda Dee Craft, 44, of Russell, was traveling north on the Grayson Spur in a 2009 Toyota Highlander at about 8:45 p.m. and apparently failed to stop at the intersection.
He said the auto traveled straight through the three-way intersection, struck a guardrail and then a rock embankment, coming to rest in the ditch against the embankment.
Craft was airlifted from the scene and taken to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, trauma center for treatment.
Ross said when the vehicle traveled into the guardrail it pulled about 130 feet of the guardrail from posts and pulled many of the posts out of the ground.
The roadway at the intersection was closed to traffic for about an hour. A landing zone for the medical helicopter was established on the Grayson Spur near the intersection and workers cleared the roadway of debris where the accident happened before the traffic flow was allowed to resume.
Ross was assisted at the scene by Deputy Eric Poynter, Vanceburg Police Officer John Ferguson, Portsmouth Ambulance, Air Evac, Emergency Management Director Carl Chaney, and workers with the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
Rescue workers from Black Oak, Lewis County, Garrison and Vanceburg fire departments also responded to the scene along with Constable Mark Riley and Constable Larry Colley.
