Lewis County Schools officials say the district is cooperating with an investigation after administrators received an allegation involving a staff member and a student.
According to a statement released Friday by Superintendent Jeff Aulick, school administrators were made aware of the allegation the day before and immediately reported the matter to the appropriate authorities, prompting a formal investigation.
“The Lewis County School District is actively cooperating with all authorities involved and will continue to do so,” Aulick said in the statement.
Aulick said all actions taken by the district will be focused on protecting the needs and confidentiality of those involved.
The investigation is being handled by the Kentucky State Police. According to the statement, troopers have contacted the alleged victim and will interview any additional individuals as the investigation continues.
No information regarding the nature of the allegation, the identity of the staff member, or whether any charges have been filed was released.
Aulick emphasized that student safety remains the district’s highest priority.
“Student safety and well-being always remain a top priority for our district, and we are committed to providing continued support when needed,” Aulick said.
The district encourages parents to contact their child’s principal or school counselor by email if their child would like to speak with a counselor.
School officials said they will continue to cooperate with investigators as the case moves forward.
Because the investigation remains active, no additional information was immediately available.
