Joyce Chatman, 79, passed away peacefully Monday, October 5, 2026, at Vanceburg Hills.
Joyce was born at Straight Fork on October 13, 1946, a daughter of the late Edgar and Cophine Friend Chatman.
She was a homemaker and spent her free time volunteering at the nursing home. She enjoyed planting and raising her flowers. She loved to play with Fred, her granddog. She was a member of Vanceburg Church of God and loved spending time with family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Eugene (Andria) Chatman of South Portsmouth; four sisters, Jean Dyer of Laurel, Chris Johnson and Betsy Jarrells of Vanceburg, and Sue Thayer of Garrison; and one grandson, Calvin “JC” Chatman of Firebrick. Many other family members and friends will mourn her passing.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Calvin Chatman, whom she married December 11, 1964; one sister, Margie Wilburn; one brother, Glenn Wilburn; a sister-in-law, Louise Wilburn; and four brothers-in-law, Dan Walters, Dean Johnson, Carl Dyer, and Tom Jarrells.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial will follow in Black Oak Cemetery.
