Edward Strong, 98, of Garrison, died Saturday, June 19, 2026, at S.O.M.C. Hospice Center in Portsmouth Ohio.
Ed was born February 22,1928, in Hamilton County, Ohio, to the late Lewis and Cora Ingram Strong.
He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Strong, of Garrison; two sons, Sam Strong, of Australia, and Marty Strong, of Garrison; a granddaughter, Linda Strong of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Jean Elizabeth Martin Strong; five sisters, Jessie Sandlin, Alta Walters, Maulta Snider, Haley Bradley, and Nancy Fishburne; and four brothers, Prise, Walter, Moss, and Charlie.
Ed was a member of the Black Oak Christian Church where he served over the years as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Elder. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Air Force in communications, having attained the rank of Staff Sargent. After his enlistment, Ed returned to Berea College of Agriculture. He was hired by the University of Kentucky Extension Service and began his career as the 4-H Agent in Greenup County. In 1959, Ed moved his family to Lewis County where he took the job of County Agriculture Agent, where he served until his retirement in 1988. Ed was a big believer in education and was a lifelong learner, earning a Masters Degree as a specialist in Ornamental Horticulture, while at the same time raising his family, working the farm that he and his wife bought in 1966, along with hosting a weekly radio show on WKKS and appearing as a regularly featured special guest on the Saturday morning Farm Report on WSAZ TV and serving as County Agent. Besides his church, Ed was active in many community organizations and county committees such as Soil Conversation, Fish and Wildlife, Lions Club, County Fair Board, and was also honored to be a Kentucky Colonel. Even after retirement Ed always strived to keep up with the latest trends in farming, and was extremely proud of his garden, and made rounds every week sharing his bounty with friends and neighbors.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel in Garrison with Rev. Richard Bowyer officiating.
Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Waring Cemetery.
