Ruby Rayburn

Ruby Jean Kegley Rayburn, 93, of Vanceburg, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Ruby was born in Lewis County on March 5, 1933, a daughter of the late Ora and Helen Lee Kegley.

She worked at Lucky Stride Shoe Factory in Maysville for 15 years. She was a homemaker who helped on the family farm, raising tobacco, growing large gardens, and canning and freezing vegetables. She enjoyed feeding the birds, especially her favorite birds, cardinals and hummingbirds, and growing flowers and rosebushes. She was known for her beautiful flowers.

She grew up on Long Branch Road and started attending Union Baptist Church. She served her church by teaching the children’s Sunday School class and was always ready to help with VBS. She also served as church secretary and treasurer.

Ruby was a member of the Kinniconick Homemakers Club for over 56 years, where she enjoyed crocheting, making quilts, and crafting.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha (Steve) Wells of Flemingsburg and Karen Rayburn of Edgewood; two grandsons, Brent (Stacy) Wells and Kevin (Tina) Wells of Flemingsburg; and five great-grandchildren, Sofia Wells, Madelyn Wells, Tyson Wells, Harrison Wells, and Lylah Wells. Many other family members and friends will sadly miss her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, William “Jim” Rayburn; one sister, Louise Hord Fultz; three brothers, Bobby Kegley, Paul Kegley, and Sherman Kegley; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kegley; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Hord and Otto Fultz.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Union Baptist Church with Bro. Joe Watson officiating. Burial will follow in McEldowney Cemetery.

Friends may visit after Noon Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the church.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Wells, Brent Wells, Harrison Wells, Billy Stone, and Larry Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Madelyn Wells, Sofia Wells, Lylah Wells, and Tyson Wells.

Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg is honored to serve the family.
