Larry Iery

Larry Wayne Iery, 68, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Vanceburg, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.

Larry was born September 25, 1957, in Maysville, a son of the late James and Louanna Walker Iery.

Larry was a 1974 graduate of Lewis County High School. He began his faith journey in his early teenage years at the Christian Church. As he grew in age and faith, he was involved in several congregations along his journey, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, song leader, and secretary to the church board.

He spent more than 30 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth, where he also served as a social service worker and an admissions coordinator. He finished his working career at Southern Ohio Medical Center Emergency Room and Patient Relations. Larry had a great love for serving others, especially the elderly. He never met a stranger and could always strike up a conversation with anyone. He was very kind and respectful to everyone.

Larry was a member of Polar Star Lodge F&AM #363 in Vanceburg, a member of the Alum City Chapter OES #222 in Vanceburg, and also served as president of the Forest Heights Subdivision Board for many years.

Survivors include two sisters, Patricia McClurg of Vanceburg and Rhonda Iery of Portsmouth, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, June Iery of Greenup and Glenda Iery of Newport, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Verlyn Iery Doles and Barbra Iery Moore; and four brothers, Cecil Dean Iery, William Iery, Jerry Dale Iery, and Timmy Iery.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup with Rev. Chris Varacalli and Bro. Kenneth Martin III officiating.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the funeral home.
