Marquita “Skeeter” Kaufman, 85, of Lima, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Springview Manor Nursing Home in Lima.
She was born at South Shore on December 20, 1940, a daughter of the late Edgar Smith and Robena Lawson Smith Young.
Marquita retired from a career in radiology at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima, Ohio, and later worked at Hallmark Eastgate. She was known for her butterscotch pies, her hospitality, and her love for family. Her home was always open to friends and visitors, and she especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her cat, Blue.
She was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church, where she formerly served as a youth counselor. She was also a member of the Child Conservation League.
On September 24, 1960, she married Byron Eugene Kaufman, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2022.
Survivors include three sons, Frank (Deneen) Kaufman of Longs, South Carolina, Keith (Susan) Kaufman of Columbus, Ohio, and Chris (Teresa) Kaufman of Waynesfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Deliah Crawford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell Kaufman, Jim Hamilton, and Linda Kaufman; and other family members and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Fred Young Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Avis (George) Evers, Marva (Gayle) Evers, Barbara (Darrell) Frysinger, Linda Hamilton, Darrell Kaufman, Frank Kaufman, Walter “Buzz” (Betty) Kaufman, Karen Kaufman, and Arnold Crawford.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio, with Pastor Tony Dirr officiating. Burial was in Salem Westminster Cemetery at Harrod, Ohio.
