Incumbent Lewis County Judge Executive George Sparks held off challenger Jonathan Ruggles in Tuesday’s Republican Primary Election, according to unofficial results released by the Lewis County Clerk’s Office.
With all precincts reporting, Sparks received 1,544 votes, or 54.16 percent, compared to 1,307 votes, or 45.84 percent, for Ruggles.
In the Lewis County Jailer race, incumbent Bryon Keith Walker defeated Pamela May Smith by a wide margin. Walker received 2,106 votes, or 76.47 percent, while Smith received 648 votes, or 23.53 percent.
Three magistrate races also appeared on the ballot Tuesday.
In the Second Magisterial District, Paul Bruce Swearingen narrowly defeated incumbent Joseph McCann. Swearingen received 339 votes, or 51.83 percent, compared to 315 votes, or 48.17 percent, for McCann.
In the Third Magisterial District, Kathy E. Dillow won a three-way race with 459 votes, or 59.15 percent. Ed Gayheart received 213 votes, or 27.45 percent, while Teddy Bentley received 104 votes, or 13.40 percent.
In the Fourth Magisterial District, incumbent Mark A. Horsley won with 466 votes, or 66.95 percent. Derrick Butler received 176 votes, or 25.29 percent, while Rebecca L. Esham Zornes received 54 votes, or 7.76 percent.
None of those positions will be opposed in the General Election.
Republican voters in Lewis County also cast ballots in the race for United States Senate, where Andy Barr led the field locally with 1,537 votes, or 55.89 percent. Daniel Cameron received 718 votes, or 26.11 percent.
Statewide unofficial results showed Barr winning the Republican nomination with 283,703 votes, or 60 percent, followed by Cameron with 144,548 votes, or 31 percent.
In the Republican race for the Fourth Congressional District seat in the US House of Representatives, incumbent Thomas Massie defeated challenger Ed Gallrein in Lewis County. Massie received 1,804 votes, or 62.97 percent, while Gallrein received 1,061 votes, or 37.03 percent.
However, unofficial districtwide totals showed Gallrein winning over Massie with 57,822 votes, or 55 percent, to 47,539 votes, or 45 percent.
On the Democratic ballot, Amy McGrath led the Lewis County vote for U.S. Senate with 104 votes, or 50.98 percent. Charles Booker received 69 votes, or 33.82 percent.
Statewide unofficial Democratic Senate results showed Charles Booker with 155,487 votes, or 47 percent. McGrath received 119,234 votes, or 36 percent.
In the Democratic race for the Fourth Congressional District, Melissa Claire Strange received 135 votes, or 69.59 percent, while Jesse Russell Brewer received 59 votes, or 30.41 percent.
Districtwide unofficial results showed Strange defeating Brewer with 30,108 votes, or 72 percent, compared to 11,461 votes, or 28 percent.
A total of 3,152 ballots were cast out of the 9,830 registered voters in Lewis County, representing a 32.07 percent voter turnout. Statewide voter turnout was reported at 25.67 percent.
All results remain unofficial pending certification.
