Joyce Marie Spence Smith, 73, of Garrison, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lewis County on August 5, 1953, a daughter of the late Estill and Ollie Clark Wright.
She enjoyed attending church, reading, working puzzles, watching “Twilight” with her dog by her side, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters, Angel (Herman) Tidwell of Tollesboro, Jamie (Donald) Ginn of Vanceburg, and Tabatha (Gary) Jewell, Mary (Richard) Jewell, and Brenda (Jimmy) Cassidy of Garrison; one son, Kenneth Wayne (Ellen) Smith of Tollesboro; seven sisters, Charlotte Rister and Judy Rickett of Garrison, Donna Spence of Quincy, Sonja Rickett of Texas, Crystal Cooley of Ohio, Barb Wright of South Shore, and Sandy Jarvis of Portsmouth, Ohio; two brothers, Hugh Wright of Kentucky and Daniel Wright of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Many other family members and friends will sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Kenneth Smith; one son, George Smith; two sisters, Kimberly Wright and Jula Dyer; three brothers, Junior Wright, David Spence, and Clifford Wright; and one grandson, Jason Ray Smith.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue at Garrison, with Bro. Anthony Rister and Sister Tabatha Jewell officiating. Burial will follow in Spy Run Cemetery at Garrison.
Friends may visit after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Angel Tidwell, Mary Jewell, Jamie Ginn, Tabatha Jewell, Brenda Cassidy, Nicki Cassidy, Faith Jewell, Skylar Field, James Cassidy, Wayne Smith, Garry Jewell, Richard Jewell, Duck Ginn, Chris Canter, Tommy Smith, Dallas Smith, Blake Smith, Eddie Smith, Alex Smith, and Tyler Fields.
