He was born on July 22, 1947, at Vanceburg, a son of Benny Sr. and Christine Chaney. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his children, Teresa J. (Ed) Bryant and Benny (April) Chaney III; two brothers, Carl (Laquita) Chaney and Chris Chaney; his grandchildren, Brandon (Amber) Bryant , Tiffany (Jeremy) Hunter, and Andrew Chaney; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Kemp and Reece McCane, Banks Bryant, and Lucy, Josie, and William Hunter.
Ben was a proud US Navy veteran, serving from 1965-1968 as a Seabee and having played a vital role in constructing bases during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Ben returned to his family’s Lewis County farm where he assisted his parents in hosting the Chaney Bluegrass Festival.
Ben dedicated much of his life to raising tobacco and cattle, fixing tractors, and taking care of his garden. In his free time, he liked camping with his family by the river, playing cards, and preserving vegetables he grew himself. He participated in a softball league for several summers. Deer season was always special to him, marked by gatherings at the family cabin. Ben relished fishing trips to Florida, and while browsing his arrowhead and old tool collections, he enjoyed pork rinds, popcorn, and just about any salty snack.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Braden Chaney, and two brothers, Mike Chaney and Teddy Chaney.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Pastor Tom Cox Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Muses Chapel Cemetery on Quicks Run.
